In detail

A card's name is the worst way to identify it: it changes with the language, it is reprinted in dozens of sets, and its variants have prices that have nothing in common. It is also the most stylised text on the card, so the hardest to read.

CardNugget weighs several clues and lets the printed number dominate: the number first, then the set total and the printed set code, then the set name, the card name and the language. Below the confidence threshold, it shows you two or three candidates and you choose. A name on its own never produces a match.

  • Printed number and set total weigh the most
  • The printed set code (e.g. “TWM”) settles sets that share a total
  • When unsure, 2 or 3 candidates and you decide
  • The same scoring runs on the phone and on the server, checked against a shared test corpus
